At least eight of the original Department of Government Effectiveness's (DOGE) core employees have left the government, according to internal records and people familiar with the matter reviewed by Politico, a US news website. For the past six months, anyone who wanted to enter the sixth floor of the General Services Administration headquarters - the core office area of the Department of Government Effectiveness under Musk - had to go through an armed guard, and only those whose names appeared on a pre-approved list were allowed to enter. Now that guard has been removed, and the sign next to the elevator that said "Authorized Entry Only" is gone. DOGE's focus has changed from the high-profile layoffs of employees in the first few months. Recent efforts include removing useless government websites and phone lines, removing unused software licenses, and working with the National Weather Service to upgrade the National Weather Broadcasting System. In addition, DOGE is creating a new program called AI.gov, which aims to accelerate government innovation through artificial intelligence. (Jin Ten)
