According to Cryptonews, the Russian government is about to ban domestic data processing centers from using subsidized electricity for cryptocurrency mining. The government has revised the draft mining bill that passed its first reading in the State Duma in 2022 and is working with lawmakers to refine the bill for the second reading.
The bill proposes that the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications establish a data center registry system, in which operators must promise not to conduct cryptocurrency mining, and only operators who make this commitment will receive preferential electricity prices. Joining the registry system will be entirely voluntary, but all companies that join will be prohibited from installing mining equipment, even if they are not connected to the Internet.
