Senate Majority Leader: Hopes to pass Russia sanctions bill before August recess

U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he "hopes" the Senate passes a bipartisan proposal by Senator Lindsey Graham, an ally of President Trump, to pass legislation to impose tough sanctions on Russia before the August recess. Senate Republicans are more confident about passing Russia sanctions legislation this month after Trump this week criticized Putin for stepping up attacks on Ukrainian cities. "Clearly there's a lot of bipartisan support in the Senate. I think that's true in the House as well, at least I hope so," Thune said. "Whether that will happen in the next few weeks is an open question, but I hope it will."
