The US Treasury has placed Song Kum Hyok, a member of a North Korean hacking group, on its Specially Designated Nationals sanctions list, accusing him of helping North Korean IT staff work for overseas companies, engaging in cyber espionage and stealing cryptocurrencies. The officials said the IT staff obtained positions in the technology and virtual currency industries through fake identities, and repatriated the income and stolen funds to North Korea. Although no specific crypto wallet address was added this time, the Treasury Department reiterated that it had sanctioned the Lazarus Group.
