The United States has offered the European Union a deal that would maintain benchmark tariffs of 10 percent on all European Union goods, with the exception of sensitive industries such as aircraft and spirits, a European Union diplomat and a European Union official said. Diplomats stressed that the contours of trade deals remain largely an evolving goal and that any deal would need Trump's approval to move forward. Washington has not indicated it would exempt politically sensitive industries such as cars, steel, aluminum or pharmaceuticals, as the European Union has demanded. France, Italy and Ireland, though, are likely to be pleased with exemptions on spirits and aircraft. (Politico)
