Coal miner Alliance Resources uses surplus electricity to mine $30 million worth of Bitcoin

Nasdaq-listed coal miner Alliance Resources said on an earnings call that it has used excess power to mine $30 million worth of bitcoin. The company began mining bitcoin as a pilot project in the second half of 2020, and as of the end of the quarter, the company had 425 bitcoins worth $30 million on its balance sheet, the company's chief financial officer said.
