A federal judge on Wednesday blocked Trump's executive order seeking to prevent migrants crossing the border from seeking asylum in the United States or applying for a stay of deportation, ruling that the order exceeded the president's executive authority. U.S. District Judge Randolph Daniel Moss, appointed by former President Barack Obama, said Wednesday that the order exceeded the president's authority to suspend legal protections for immigrants and emphasized that neither the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) nor the Constitution gives the executive branch the power to substitute for INA and its regulations. Trump adviser Stephen Miller criticized the ruling on social media.
