Security Firm: Dozens of Fake Crypto Wallet Extensions Surge Firefox Plugin Store
2025-07-02 15:59:41
Security firm Koi has revealed that more than 40 counterfeit crypto wallet extensions have appeared in the official Firefox browser plug-in store, including mainstream wallets such as MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet. These malicious plug-ins steal more than 30 characters of input (mainly for mnemonic words) by implanting event listening codes, and send the data back to the attacker's server. Investigations show that the phishing campaign has been going on since at least April 2025, and the group behind it is suspected of Russian-language hackers.
