European Union official says to travel to US for trade talks on July 1

European Union Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Sergei Sefcovic said on June 30 that he would travel to Washington for trade talks on July 1. US President Donald Trump on May 23 threatened to impose 50% tariffs on goods imported from the European Union from June 1. But on May 25, Trump announced that the start of 50% tariffs on the European Union would be extended from June 1 to July 9. The two sides have since started trade talks on the tariff issue.
