Meta restructures AI division to develop "super intelligence" shares hit record high

On July 1st, Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms (META. O), announced a major reorganization of the company's artificial intelligence department, including a commitment to developing "super intelligence", that is, systems that can perform tasks as well as or better than humans. According to an internal memo, Zuckerberg sent a letter to employees on Monday saying that Meta's artificial intelligence work will belong to a new division called "Meta Superintelligence Labs" (MSL), led by Alexandr Wang, former CEO of data labeling startup Scale AI. Wang will serve as the company's chief artificial intelligence officer. Zuckerberg also said that former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman will co-lead the group and be responsible for Meta's work on artificial intelligence products and applied research. Affected by this news, Meta's share price hit a record high of $747.9 in intraday trading.
