David Kohl, chief economist at Julius Baer, Switzerland: The Fed is expected to start a series of 25 basis point rate cuts in October, with the federal funds target rate falling from the current 4.5% to 3.5% in March 2026. After that, the Fed will stand still and inflation is likely to be closer to the 3% target rather than the 2% target. The easing of monetary policy is mainly to deal with the receding inflation risk, and secondly to deal with the risk of economic growth and rising unemployment.
