According to a report by the Associated Press on June 29, US President Donald Trump said that he has no intention of extending the 90-day tariff suspension period for most countries and regions beyond July 9. Once the negotiation period he set expires, the government will notify the relevant countries and regions that the trade penalties will take effect as scheduled unless an agreement is reached with the United States.
He said letters would soon be sent to countries and regions before the deadline approached. "We're going to assess the attitude of countries and regions towards us: friendly or unfriendly," Mr. Trump said on Fox News. "There are countries and regions that we don't care about, just send a big number." In the interview, Mr. Trump said the letters would read: "Congratulations on being allowed to buy goods from the United States of America, subject to a 25 per cent tariff, or a 35 per cent, 50 per cent, 10 per cent tariff."
