President Donald Trump said he did not see the need to extend the July 9 trade deadline by which countries need to reach an agreement with the US to avoid higher tariffs. "I don't think an extension is needed," he said in an interview with Fox News, before adding: "I can extend it too, it's not a big deal." The move comes after Mr. Trump said on Friday that the administration could "do whatever it wants" with the deadline, including extending it or shortening it. On Friday, US Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent said: "We've been offered very good deals, but it may not be possible to complete all the negotiations until Mr. Trump's country-specific tariffs come back into effect on April 2. If we can make deals with 10 to 12 of our 18 important trading partners - and another 20 important trading relationships - then I think we can complete all of our trade negotiations by Labor Day in the United States.
