The Trump administration's agenda for trade deals could be wrapped up by Labor Day (Sept. 1), Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent said, suggesting that some talks could stretch beyond the July 9 deadline. "There are countries that come to us with really good deals," Bescent said on the television program on Friday, highlighting comments by Commerce Secretary Lutnik the day before that the White House was close to planning deals with 10 major trading partners. Bescent reiterated that there are 18 important trading partners, and that "if we can get a deal with 10 or 12 of those 18 important partners (in addition to the other 20 important partners), then I think we can get a trade deal done by Labor Day." He did not specify which countries he hoped to reach an agreement with.
