TRM Labs, a crypto analysis platform, pointed out in a post that Israel recently arrested three people suspected of spying for Iran, two of whom were paid in cryptocurrency, in a rare public case involving the use of digital assets by government agents.
TRM said that on June 18, Iran's largest crypto exchange Nobitex was hacked and lost more than 90 million US dollars. The attacker was the pro-Israel group Gonjeshke Darande. TRM analysis said that although there is no direct evidence, Israel may use the internal data of Nobitex obtained in this attack (such as wallets and message records) to target suspects, and the relevant tactics are consistent with Israel's past behavior. Chainalysis added that Nobitex is a key node in the crypto system under Iran's sanctions, and has intersected with groups related to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
