According to the Wall Street Journal, CoreWeave is in talks to acquire Core Scientific. About a year ago, the artificial intelligence company tried and failed to acquire the digital infrastructure company.
A deal could be finalised in the next few weeks as long as talks do not stall, according to people familiar with the matter. The exact terms of the talks are unclear, but Core Scientific has been growing rapidly recently and could command a significant premium.
CoreWeave provides cloud infrastructure for artificial intelligence capabilities and is a partner with several large technology companies. Microsoft is its largest customer, accounting for 62 percent of CoreWeave's revenue in 2024, according to its IPO filing. CoreWeave acts as a liaison, leasing access to NVIDIA graphics processing units for companies such as Meta and IBM.
