Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino expects an explosion in business activity between machines and says stablecoins and bitcoin will be at the heart of this transformation. In an interview with The Block podcast show Big Brain, Ardoino predicted that a trillion AI agents will settle transactions using blockchain-based assets within the next 15 years.
"I believe that in the future every AI agent will have a wallet, and that wallet should be a self-custodial wallet. We will have a trillion AI agents in 15 years," Mr. Ardoino said, adding that traditional financial services providers such as JPMorgan were unlikely to treat autonomous robots as customers and open accounts for them.
AI agents are autonomous software robots that can interact with other machines without supervision. Observers see these robots as essential to the maturing digital economy. Many expect AI agents to dominate future online activity and rely on cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange.
Ardoino also mentioned the wallet power builder package (WDK) that Tether launched last November as a ready-made tool for enabling non-custodial integration.
