The United States expects attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria

On June 23rd, The New York Times quoted a US official as saying that US military and intelligence officials have detected signs that Iranian-backed militias are preparing to attack US bases in Iraq, "possibly" including US bases in Syria. The unnamed militant groups have not yet launched an attack, and Iraqi officials are working to dissuade the militias from taking action. Iran's ambassador to the United Nations said earlier on Sunday that the timing, nature and scale of Tehran's response to the US attack would be determined by the armed forces.
