Trump criticizes Powell again: idiots may not cut interest rates today

President Donald Trump again criticised Federal Reserve Chairperson Jerome Powell on Wednesday, just hours before the central bank announced its interest rate decision. Mr. Trump said the US had collected $88 billion from tariffs and was "not inflating", renewing his call for lower rates. "If the Fed cut rates, we would buy Treasuries at a lower price," he said. "But frankly, we have a stupid guy at the Fed who probably won't cut rates today. He's done a terrible job. We should cut rates by 200 basis points, and it would be better if we could cut rates by 250 basis points. I'm going to take a short-term strategy, bring rates down a lot, and then move to a long-term strategy."
