Von der Leyen, President of the European Union Commission: Having had a good call with US President Trump ahead of the G7 summit, we discussed the tense geopolitical situation in the Middle East and the need for close coordination on its impact on energy markets. We also discussed the situation in Ukraine, the need for a ceasefire and the need for continued pressure on Russia. Finally we assessed the ongoing trade negotiations and I reiterated our commitment to reach a good deal by July 9.
