According to CoinDesk, Brazil has scrapped its long-standing tax exemption for cryptocurrency gains. Under the new temporary decree (Decree 1303), personal cryptocurrency profits will be taxed at a flat rate of 17.5%. Previously, individuals sold cryptocurrencies up to 35,000 reais (about $6,300) per month without paying taxes. Before this change, gains above this limit were taxed progressively, with a maximum tax rate of 22.5% applicable to transactions over $5.40 million.
