Gotbit founder and CEO Aleksei Andriunin was sentenced by the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Friday to eight months in prison and a year of supervised release after serving his sentence for manipulating the crypto market and conducting multimillion-dollar trading.
Prosecutors said that Andriunin and the Gotbit team provided fake trading volume manufacturing services for multiple crypto projects from 2018 to 2024, falsifying on-chain active levels through code and multi-account operations, helping the project get on CoinMarketCap and attracting large exchanges to list. Gotbit was paid tens of millions of dollars.
In addition, Gotbit was also sentenced to five years of probation, during which it cannot continue to operate related businesses. Prosecutors say Andriunin was arrested in Portugal in October 2024, extradited to the United States in February 2025, and signed a plea agreement in March this year.
