According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) has just officially repealed the expanded Escrow Rule proposal and Rule 3b-16, as well as other Gensler-era rules.
Designed to cover all customer assets, including cryptocurrencies, the Custody Rule expands the definition of "custodian" and raises concerns about whether certain state-chartered entities should be recognized as qualified custodians. Rule 3b-16 proposes to regulate decentralized financial (DeFi) exchanges/platforms as if they were national stock exchanges.
The SEC also dropped a proposal to require public companies to comply with enhanced environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting requirements.
