Paul Atkins, chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), said during a cryptocurrency task force roundtable titled "DeFi and the American Spirit" on Monday that a more open approach to cryptoasset self-custody is recommended.
Paul Atkins said: "I support giving market participants more flexibility to take custody of crypto assets, especially if intermediaries impose unnecessary transaction costs or restrict participation in staking and other on-chain activities."
