The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today (June 6) gazetted the Stablecoin Ordinance (Commencement) Notice, designating August 1, 2005 as the date on which the Stablecoin Ordinance (Cap. 656) (the Ordinance) will come into operation.
"After the Ordinance comes into effect, the licensing regime will provide appropriate regulations for related stablecoin activities and is a milestone in promoting the sustainable development of Hong Kong's stablecoin and digital asset ecosystem," said Hui Cheng-yu, secretary for financial services and the Treasury.
The Hong Kong Stablecoin Ordinance will come into force on August 1, 2025
