Silk Road Founder Receives $31 million Bitcoin Donation Suspected to Be Linked to Alphabay Darknet Market

According to Cointelegraph, blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis reported that 300 bitcoin (worth about $31 million) donations received by Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht earlier this month were suspected to have come from Alphabay-related wallets on the dark web marketplace. The analysis revealed that the donors used a variety of hybrid services to hide traces of transactions, and the funds may have originated from Alphabay's early suppliers. Blockchain detective ZachXBT confirmed that the funds did not come from Silk Road, but its transaction patterns suggest that illegal sources may have been involved. Alphabay was the successor to Silk Road and operated between 2014 and 2017 before being shut down in Operation Bayonet. It is worth noting that Ulbricht has received a full pardon from President Trump in January this year, after serving 12 years in prison for running Silk Road.
