According to Decrypt, Meta's oversight board on Thursday ordered the removal of an AI-faked video ad featuring Brazilian football legend Ronaldo that misled customers into engaging with an online game called Plinko and making false revenue promises. The board criticized Meta for failing to strictly enforce its anti-fraud policy, noting that despite the video being reported and viewed 600,000, it was not dealt with in a timely manner. The incident highlights the platform's poor control of celebrity AI fake content, after Jamie Lee Curtis publicly questioned Zuckerberg over similar issues. Recently, US President Donald Trump signed the Take It Down Act, which requires platforms to remove non-consensual AI-generated images within 48 hours in response to the growing problem of deepfake abuse.
