According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta is seeking to partner with Hollywood to secure exclusive content for its high-end virtual reality headsets, which it plans to launch next year. The tech company has held talks with entertainment brands such as Disney and A24, as well as some smaller production companies, according to people familiar with the matter. Meta is willing to spend millions of dollars on series or standalone immersive video content based on well-known intellectual property. Meta hopes the content will attract consumers to its planned virtual reality device, which will compete with Apple's VisionPro, which it plans to launch next year. The new device, internally codenamed "Loma", is more powerful and has higher video fidelity than the Meta Quest VR headsets currently on the market. Designed to resemble a pair of large glasses and more like Meta's Ray-Ban AI glasses than the goggles used by Quest and VisionPro, it is attached to a small device that users can carry in their pockets. According to some people familiar with the matter, Meta plans to price the device at less than $1,000, which is higher than the starting price of $300 for the Quest but lower than the base price of $3,500 for the VisionPro.
