Outlook: India's central bank may cut interest rates for the third time in a row

The Reserve Bank of India is widely expected to cut interest rates for the third time in a row on Friday as lower-than-expected inflation provides ample room for further economic growth. A Reuters poll showed that 53 of the 61 economists surveyed expected the RBI to cut rates by 25 basis points, bringing the repo rate to 5.75 percent, two expected the RBI to cut rates by 50 basis points, and the remaining six expected the central bank to keep rates unchanged. Barclays economists said that although there is no urgency for a third consecutive rate cut on June 6, they still expect the central bank to cut interest rates and maintain an accommodative stance. This is an opportunistic move in the face of a lower-than-expected inflation outcome and outlook. (Jin Ten)
