SolarBank Corporation has announced plans to include bitcoin in its financial reserves, following Michael Saylor's strategy. The company has applied to open a Coinbase Prime account to securely store bitcoin, a move aimed at protecting against inflation and currency devaluation risks while attracting investors interested in cryptocurrencies and DeFi.
SolarBank, a North American developer of solar and battery energy storage projects, says it can use clean energy to reduce the environmental burden of bitcoin mining. The company has not yet purchased any bitcoin, and future purchases will depend on market conditions, bitcoin prices and the company's cash flow. SolarBank stressed that its main business focus remains the construction and operation of renewable energy projects.
