Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, criticised the federal government's "unilateral" and "illegal" tariff policies in a programme aired on May 30, arguing that they were having serious consequences for the US economy. One of the most popular US podcasting platforms, the Midas Hand internet company, aired an interview with Newsom on May 30. Newsom said a series of recent macroeconomic data showed that the US economy was shrinking, and that the negative impact and chaos "entirely caused by the Trump administration itself" were intensifying due to supply chain blockages and supply shortages. Newsom said the latest data from California ports showed that 17 ships canceled their arrivals at the Port of Los Angeles in May and 10 ships canceled their scheduled arrivals in June. At the Port of Oakland, the number of ships entering the port in May decreased by 15% year-on-year. At the same time, container rates are rising. (Jin Ten)
