On May 30, Netflix announced the release of The Altruists, an eight-episode limited series about the FTX scandal, to be produced by Higher Ground, the production company founded by former US presidents Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. The show follows two young idealists who seek to rapidly reshape the global financial system and end up conspiring to embezzle about $8 billion.
As a result, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud, and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison was sentenced to two years.
