A second federal court has blocked Trump's tariffs, dealing another blow to the White House agenda

A federal judge blocked the Trump administration from imposing tariffs on two toy importers in Illinois, the second court in two days to strike down Trump's top trade deal strategy. "The International Economic Emergency Powers Act does not authorize the president to impose tariffs as set out in four executive orders issued by Trump earlier this year," said Judge Rudolph Contreras of the District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington in a ruling that ordered preliminary injunctions on tariffs imposed on the two plaintiffs. Lawyers for the Department of Justice had previously urged Contreras not to grant injunction requests filed by the companies, saying it would act as a "magnet" for thousands of other companies to challenge the tariffs. Judge Contreras also said the tariffs were not in accordance with the law and decided to suspend the order for 14 days so that both parties could appeal to the court.
