On May 30, the White House confirmed that the Trump administration had submitted an Israeli-backed cease-fire proposal to Hamas in the hope of achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. White House press secretary Levitt told reporters that US special envoy for the Middle East Witkoff and Trump had submitted the proposal to Hamas. "Israel signed off on the proposal before it was sent to Hamas," Levitt said. "I can also confirm that these discussions are continuing and we want a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip so we can bring all our hostages home." She did not elaborate on the details of the proposal, which is reported to be centered on a 60-day cease-fire. If there is any breakthrough, Trump may announce it himself, she said.
