Japan has offered to buy billions of dollars' worth of U.S. semiconductor products as part of ongoing tariff talks with the United States, the Asahi Shimbun reported Wednesday, citing government sources. The Japanese government will offer subsidies to domestic companies that buy chips from companies such as NVIDIA (NVDA. O) to support the purchase of chips totaling hundreds of billions to 1 trillion yen. The Japanese government aims to use the proposal as a "negotiating card" to address the U.S. trade deficit with Japan, which currently stands at about 10 trillion yen. NVIDIA is a key supplier in the proposal. The plan also includes support for strengthening the U.S.-Japan semiconductor supply chain through domestic production of wafers and chemicals, which is crucial for chip manufacturing. (Jin Ten)
