Crypto industry groups have called on the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to issue formal guidance on staking, saying Web3 infrastructure providers face continued regulatory uncertainty. Allison Muehr, head of staking policy at the Crypto Council for Innovation, told the Solana Accelerate conference in New York: "We are only about 25 per cent on track. The SEC has engaged more constructively in the past four months than in the past four years, but we still don't have formal staking guidance." She added that approval of the Solana ETF and its staked version "ultimately depends on reassuring the SEC about the structure", adding that the industry had "some productive meetings" with the SEC recently. At present, the SEC has not approved the use of staking in ETFs, nor has it issued clear guidelines for providing staking services in compliance.
