South Africa has offered to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States within 10 years as one of the proposals to secure a trade deal, according to a ministerial statement posted on the website of the South African government news agency. South Africa aims to import about 75 million to 100 million cubic metres of LNG per year from the United States, the world's largest LNG exporter, the document, signed by Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, a minister in the South African Presidency and released late on Sunday, said. This would free up trade of about $900 million to $1.20 billion per year and $9 billion to $12 billion over 10 years depending on the applicable price. The proposed package also includes duty-free quotas for the export of 40,000 vehicles per year from South Africa, as well as duty-free access for sourcing auto parts from South Africa for production in the United States.
