According to Decrypt, a man has been arrested in New York on suspicion of kidnapping and torturing his victim to obtain the password to his bitcoin wallet.
The suspect, John Woeltz, 37, was arrested on Friday. Prosecutors say a 28-year-old Italian victim was tied up, beaten, injected with drugs and electrocuted while held captive for weeks in a Manhattan mansion. The victim eventually managed to escape through a scheme on May 24.
When police searched the scene, they found cocaine, chainsaws, barbed wire and night vision goggles. Prosecutors said Woeltz did not commit the crime alone, and another accomplice was at large. Woeltz has been charged with kidnapping, battery, false imprisonment and illegal possession of weapons, and the court has ordered him not to be released on bail.
