According to the Slow Mist Chief Information Security Officer @im23pdsX platform, a cryptocurrency user suffered a "withdrawal verification code" scam and lost up to $1.10 million.
The scam method is as follows: the victim receives a text message disguised as a trading platform, claiming that someone has applied for a cash withdrawal verification code and providing a phone number for contact. After the victim calls back, the scammer claims that there are security bugs in the system and security restrictions need to be implemented. Subsequently, another scammer impersonates a Ledger employee and calls to induce the victim to visit the phishing website on the grounds of solving the security problem, which eventually leads to the theft of assets.
The case warns cryptocurrency users to be vigilant, not to trust text messages and phone calls from unknown sources, beware of phishing websites, and protect their personal assets.
