Vitalik: Future democracies may rely less on transparency and accountability
2025-05-21 09:22:29
On May 21, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, wrote that the trend of democratic institutions in the future may be less dependent on "transparency and accountability", and more indirect methods, and more room for (diverse, aggregated) individual consciences. For example, voting on UN resolutions should be a secret ballot, where each country can choose (and replace) its own representatives, but once a choice is made, what the representatives do is determined by their own conscience. This also applies to DAOs.
