According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, the economic ministers of Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held an online meeting on the 20th. In view of the rise of protectionism around the world due to the high tariff policy of the Trump administration in the United States, the participants agreed to promote free trade. The meeting adopted a joint statement, emphasizing "recognizing the importance of strengthening trust and cooperation to address common issues." Participants also agreed to join hands to support a rules-based trading system and strengthen cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automobiles in the face of increasing global economic uncertainty. The ASEAN side stressed that it will not take countermeasures against the US tariff measures and will engage in constructive dialogue with the US side.
