On May 17, according to a report by Japan's TBS TV station on Saturday, Japan is considering a plan to provide subsidies for the construction of Tesla electric vehicle charging stations in tariff negotiations with the United States. The Japanese government currently only provides subsidies for the installation of charging stations with Japan's CHAdeMO standard, excluding Tesla's Superchargers. TBS said the U.S. Trade Representative has expressed concerns about the issue and asked for improvements. According to the Nikkei business daily, Japanese negotiators have expressed their willingness to discuss the issue of lowering U.S. tariffs on Japan, rather than pushing Washington to remove them altogether. The tariffs include a 25 percent tariff on cars and auto parts and a 24 percent tariff on other goods. Akasawa has repeatedly said that Japan wants the United States to completely remove tariffs on Japan, and that Japan's top priority is to win exemptions from U.S. tariffs on automobiles and auto parts.
