On April 26, according to CNN, some Hamas officials have suggested that the militant group may give up its armed struggle with Israel if a Palestinian state is established. The message shows that Hamas has softened its stance at a time when Israel is attacking the Gaza Strip and Hamas' fate is in jeopardy. Bassam Naim, an official in Hamas's political bureau, said Thursday that Hamas is willing to disarm its armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, if a Palestinian state is established. "If an independent state is established with Jerusalem as its capital, while retaining the right of refugees to return, then the al-Qassam Brigades can be integrated into the national army," Naim said.
