World Consultant: Iris scanning technology misunderstood, data never leaves Orb device
2025-05-14 21:32:23
World Foundation adviser Liam Horne told Consensus 2025 that the controversy over the project's iris scanning technology was "often misunderstood" and that claims that World or Altman had user data were "in fact the exact opposite" and that "the data never left the Orb device". Horne stressed that the system was "designed for privacy from the ground up". The World network converts biometric information generated by iris scans into World ID through a mechanism called "proof-of-personhood" to verify that the user is a real and independent individual. The project has recently expanded to six major US cities, including Atlanta and San Francisco.
