European Union Commission spokesperson Thomas Reinier said the Trump administration's decision to scrap so-called artificial intelligence proliferation rules that put a cap on how many advanced artificial intelligence chips some countries can buy was a welcome development.
"We are pleased that the administration recognizes that the artificial intelligence proliferation rule will harm U.S. diplomatic relations with dozens of countries," Mr. Renier said. The Commerce Department is repealing the rule on the grounds that it will stifle innovation, burden companies with onerous regulations and undermine diplomatic relations. Mr. Renier said the United States has economic and security interests in removing the European Union's restrictions on buying advanced artificial intelligence chips from the United States.
