BIS report: Cryptocurrency speculation dominates 600 billion dollar cross-border transfer

Speculative activity remains closely tied to global funding rates, highlighting the growing "interconnectedness" of cryptocurrencies with traditional finance, according to the BIS report. Research published by the BIS on May 8 found that cross-border transfers using the two largest cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum, and the two largest stablecoins, USDT and USDC, totaled about $600 billion in the second quarter of 2024, the last observation period covered by the analysis.
