Instagram Big V Jabara Igbara was sentenced to seven years in prison by U.S. District Judge Frederic Block on wire fraud and money laundering charges. The verdict also called for Igbara to forfeit $10 million. The U.S. Attorney's Office said Wednesday that Igbara, 28, committed multiple fraudulent schemes to defraud investors of at least $8 million. He pleaded guilty to the charges in November 2022.
The prosecutor's office alleges that Igbara ran a Ponzi scheme against Muslims through a company called Hal-Capital LLC. He posted above-market cryptocurrency prices on his Instagram account and other social media, and sent a modified telegraphic transfer conformation image to indicate that he had sent money, which was not the case.
