According to the New York Times, the Trump administration is considering issuing several executive orders aimed at speeding up the construction of nuclear power plants to help meet the growing demand for electricity. The draft order says the United States is calling for a "complete overhaul" of federal safety regulations to make it easier to build new nuclear power plants. They envisage the Department of Defense playing a major role in ordering reactors and installing them on military bases. They would also set a goal of quadrupling the size of nuclear power plants across the country, from nearly 100 gigawatts now to 400 gigawatts by 2050. A draft order titled "Ushering in a Nuclear Renaissance" reads: "Prompt and decisive action is needed to initiate a nuclear renaissance in the United States".
