On May 10, due to the failure of consultations between Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the ruling National Power Party of South Korea, and the non-partisan presidential candidate and former Prime Minister Han Duk-soo on the joint election of a single candidate for the presidential election on the evening of May 9, the National Power Party held a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly, the Emergency Countermeasures Committee, and the Election Countermeasures Committee late that night, and decided to cancel Kim Moon-soo's candidacy and handle the registration procedures for Han Duk-soo to join the party and the presidential candidate.
