According to TechCrunch, Microsoft president Brad Smith told a Senate hearing that the company banned employees from using the DeepSeek app service due to data security and promotional content risks, and did not put it on the app store. Although Microsoft has made the DeepSeek R1 model available for download on Azure, it is limited to open-source model deployments, not official applications. Smith also revealed that Microsoft has made "modifications" to the DeepSeek model to remove potentially harmful content.
